A baseline survey on the household waste management of 487 households in Koteshwor was carried in June 2017.
98% have already joined a waste collection service and 36% say they segregate their waste (22% have separate bins) while 26.5% compost their organic waste. The preferred waste collection time for 93% of respondents was from 6 am till 9 am whereas 87% said that “mothers” handle waste in their household.
These findings were considered while designing new schedules for waste collection. The activity also helped in raising awareness.
The survey was followed by capacity building workshops for staffs of Waste Concern, door to door mobilization and community workshops on Sustainable Waste Management for the households.
